March 19, 2011

I ran 10 miles on Saturday. It is funny to me how I always look forward to my long runs and then as I am running them I wonder why :). When I woke up on Saturday it was a little cold and it looked like it might storm so I knew I wanted to wait a few hours but didn't want to wait long or it might storm on me. I left around 11 and it was windy but the temperature was actually really nice.  The first couple of miles were great and then from mile 2 - 5 I was running slightly up hill and into the wind. What!? I obviously didn't plan my run to well :).  I wondered if I was just being a wimp but when I mentioned the wind to my husband and how bad it was he was like I know I was out in it too and I can't believe you were running. I hit mile 4 and I thought I might not make it to five but it leveled out a little and I was able to get to five. At mile 5, I turned around and yes down hill with a little wind behind me! My thighs and butt were on fire. I really didn't feel that out of shape, but I was feeling it today. I realized what an amateur I am when I realized at mile 6 I hadn't eaten and I didn't drop water any where! Luckily my BIL was at his house that I ran by and I called and he brought me out some water! What a life saver!! When I got back to my SIL that had my kids I just laid on the grass for a minute. It felt great to be done! I was tired most of the day and my lower back was killing me. I remember these feelings from the first of last year when I started running. Hopefully it will get a little easier once I get a few more miles under my belt. On a little more exciting note, I realized what an accomplishment this was a little later in the day when I realized I had never ran that far by myself. If this isn't anything exceptional to you it was for me. I have been a little worried about training for the marathon without my own personal trainer like I had last year. It made me realize I can do this all on my own. What a great day!

  1. Tiff! I am seriously so impressed. That is wonderful. Running in wind and cold is something to be proud of--and the distance too! I can't wait to see you in the TOU!

  2. I hate running in the wind and cold! It's hard work and your doing great! What a great thing to have a running blog. Maybe I will have to come up there or your will have to come down here and we could run together. Just a small one though:)
